Mary Ann (Revey) Shields closed her eyes on our earthly world on November 29 2025 only to open them in the glorious gardens of Heaven. Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by family and the many friends and faculty who loved her at the Wellsville Retirement Community. Mary entered this world on May 9, 1931 at a farmhouse just Northwest of Wellsville, Kansas. The second born of four children to Walter Reason Revey and Maggie Olive (Wright) Revey. She attended all her school years at Wellsville graduating in May of 1949. On June 15, 1949 Mary was joined in Holy Matrimony to James M. Shields, also a native of Wellsville. Together they enjoyed 68 years of marriage ending only upon his death in 2017. Five children were born to this union: four girls and one boy. Mary followed and supported Jim during his 22 year Naval service from Kansas to Tennessee to California to Virginia to Rhode Island, where upon his retirement they returned to their roots of Kansas and back to Wellsville. Mary was a great mother, a fabulous cook and a master with the needle and thread. She loved sewing. There wasn't a piece of clothing that she couldn't make, but her real love was making quilts. She was truly a master quilt maker and made countless quilts for family and friends. Every one of them made by hand and given away with love. Mary made sure, that not only was her family taking care of, she made sure that everyone around her was taken care of, giving the same love and caring to all. Mary had been a resident of the Wellsville Retirement Community for almost the last 10 years where she was superbly taken care of, surrounded by and enjoyed many of the friends that she grew up with, along with many family members who were also residents there. She loved every minute of it. She had a regular full-size organ in her room and every once in a while she would crank up the volume and rock the halls with song after song, much to the enjoyment of the other residents. There is not enough room to write or mention all that she had seen, the people she had met or the acts of selfless compassion she performed in her over 94 years of walking this earth. Mary was preceded in death by her father Walter Revey her mother Olive Revey her baby girl Kitty (Shields) Odell her husband James Shields both sisters Kathryn (Revey) Shields, Lois Ruth (Revey) Thomas and her brother Walter Revey Jr. Mary is survived by her son and his wife, Tim and Susan (Hughes) Shields both of Wellsville, three daughters who live somewhere, 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces and an unknown number of those she basically adopted who called her Grandma. Mary was a devout Christian whose faith in Christ and her devotion to God never faltered or waivered even during the most trying times of her life. Her perpetual cheerful smile, her loving hands and her quiet voice will be greatly missed by the many who have known her. Her memory will live on in all those whose lives she touched. A private grave side ceremony will be held to lay Mary to rest along the love of her life, Jim Shields at the Rock Creek Cemetery. A memorial and remembrance will be held at the Wellsville Retirement Community for all those she held dear, her friends she lived with and the magnificent staff who took care of her. She didn't really die, she just changed worlds.
